Extech 407790A Real Time Octave Band Analyzer

The Extech 407790A Real-Time Octave Band Analyzer is a sophisticated noise-measurement instrument combining the functionality of a Type 2 integrating sound level meter with real-time 1/1-octave and 1/3-octave band analysis — ideal for detailed acoustic monitoring and diagnostic work.

Description

This compact, field-ready analyzer features a full-colour backlit 3.5″ (320×240) TFT display, showing sound pressure levels, equivalent continuous levels (Leq), exposure levels (SEL), maximum, minimum, and percentile levels (e.g., L05, L90) in either standard SLM mode or real-time octave-band mode.

In octave-band mode you can select either 1/1-octave (typically 31.5 Hz to 8 kHz) or 1/3-octave (typically 25 Hz to 10 kHz) — even simultaneously — enabling identification of frequency-specific noise issues such as machinery hum, ventilation hiss or structural resonance.

Measurement ranges are broad: five selectable ranges covering from 20 dB up to 130 dB depending on setting. The meter supports frequency-weightings (“A”, “C”, and flat “Z”), time-weightings (Fast, Slow, 10 ms or impulse) and offers AC/DC analog outputs for charting or external recorders.Data logging is built in via microSD card, and measurement data can be transferred to a PC for further analysis.

In short: this unit is well suited to professional acoustic survey work where both overall sound levels and their frequency content matter.

Features

  • Real-time 1/1-octave and 1/3-octave band analysis (simultaneously if needed) for detailed frequency-domain acoustic diagnostics.

  • Wide measurement range (five ranges) from about 20–130 dB depending on range setting.

  • Type 2 integrating sound level meter functionality: measurable parameters include SPL (Lp), Equivalent continuous (Leq), Sound Exposure Level (SEL), Lmax, Lmin, and percentile levels (L05, L10, L50, L90, L95).

  • Frequency weighting options (A, C, Z/flat) and time weightings (Fast, Slow, 10 ms, Impulse) to match a wide range of measurement standards and scenarios.

  • Large colour back-lit display (3.5″, 320×240) that shows numeric and bar-graph data and supports intuitive octave band presentation.

  • Built-in memory and microSD data-logging: store measurements, recall or transfer to PC for analysis and reporting.

  • AC and DC analog outputs for hooking to external chart recorders or data acquisition systems, plus comparator/trig-in features in many models.

  • Detachable condenser microphone (0.52″/13.2 mm diameter) and tripod mount for stable field mounting and flexibility of measurement location.

  • Compliance with ANSI/IEC Type 2 standards (e.g., IEC 61672-1 for sound level meters and IEC 61260 for octave band analyzers) making it appropriate for many professional and industrial use-cases.
