Extech 461825 Combination Photo Tachometer/Stroboscope
The 461825 is a handheld instrument that combines non-contact photo tachometer functionality with a built-in stroboscope, enabling both RPM measurement and visual “freeze” of rotating parts for inspection.
Description
This model supports both high-speed photo (non-contact) RPM measurement and stroboscopic flash rate adjustment for analyzing motion. It covers a tachometer range from about 5 to 99,999 RPM and a stroboscope flash rate from approximately 100 to 100,000 flashes per minute (FPM). Its digit display is 5 digits (up to 99999 count) and it features a unique display mode where character direction reverses depending on the selected mode (photo tachometer vs stroboscope). Memory functions store last, maximum and minimum readings for review. The strobe mode is adjustable with both coarse and fine rate controls in three ranges (100-1,000; 1,000-10,000; 10,000-100,000 FPM) and uses a high-efficiency LED flash tube to provide a short flash duration (approx. 60 to 1,000 microseconds, about 16 % of period) so that rotating parts appear stationary for inspection. The photo tachometer mode uses reflective tape placed on the target; typical detection distance is 50-150 mm (~2-6″) though larger distances may be possible depending on ambient light. The instrument is battery-powered (four AA cells), portable and suitable for field use such as motors, fans, gearboxes, conveyors, and other rotating machinery diagnostics.
