Extech 461995 Combination Contact/Laser Photo Tachometer
The 461995 is a handheld tachometer that supports both direct-contact measurements and non-contact laser photo measurements, making it versatile for a wide range of rotating or moving machinery monitoring tasks.
Description
This instrument integrates two measurement modes: contact mode (placing a tip onto the shaft) and non-contact laser photo mode (pointing a laser beam at reflective tape on the target from a safe distance). In contact mode it covers roughly 0.5 rpm up to about 20,000 rpm; in laser photo mode it ranges from about 10 rpm up to nearly 100,000 rpm. A surface-speed mode is included (using wheel attachments) for converting to linear motion (ft/min or m/min). The display is a large five-digit LCD, changes orientation depending on mode to ensure readability, and includes memory to store last, minimum and maximum readings. It’s built with a microprocessor and quartz time-base for high accuracy (≈0.05 % of reading). The laser photo mode extends measurement distance (up to ~2 m) for difficult-to-reach or high-speed applications. Supplied with surface-speed wheel attachments, reflective tape, batteries and a carrying case, it’s ready for field use.
Applications include motor or fan maintenance, belt/pulley speed checks, pump or compressor shaft monitoring, and any scenario where switching between contact and non-contact measurement is valuable.
