The Extech 480403 is a compact, handheld instrument tailored for industrial electricians and maintenance technicians who need quick verification of three‑phase wiring and motor setup. It offers two key functions. First, it verifies phase orientation (i.e., whether the three phases are in the correct order) by connecting the included color‑coded leads to the three supply phases; LED indicators show each phase’s presence and whether the sequence is correct (clockwise) or reversed (counter‑clockwise).Second, it determines motor rotation direction in two ways: a direct contact method (connecting to the motor terminals) and a non‑contact method (holding the tester near the motor shaft or housing to detect the magnetic field and rotation direction) — a particularly useful feature to prevent damage due to incorrect motor wiring. The instrument is built with a durable double‑moulded housing, wide‑jaw alligator clips for ease of use, and it ships complete with the test leads, pouch case and a 9 V battery.
