The Extech EX655 is a high-capability clamp meter that provides true RMS measurement for both AC and DC currents up to 600 A. It combines this with non-contact voltage detection and a full multimeter suite, making it a versatile tool for electricians, maintenance technicians, and industrial field service.
Description
The EX655 is part of Extech’s advanced clamp meter lineup. Its true RMS architecture ensures accurate readings even in distorted or non-sinusoidal environments. The jaws open to 1.18 in (30 mm), allowing measurement of sizeable conductors (up to around 350 MCM). Beyond current, it supports AC/DC voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency, temperature (via Type K probe), continuity, diode testing, and microcurrent measurements. It also includes features like low-impedance (LoZ) mode to avoid ghost voltages, a low-pass filter (LPF) for stable readings on variable frequency drive (VFD) circuits, and an inrush mode to capture startup surges. The backlit 6000-count LCD display has a bargraph and trend display, and the unit is equipped with a built-in LED worklight. Other handy functions include data hold, min/max capture, relative mode, DC zero, and auto power-off.
Be aware: this model was subject to a safety recall for certain serial ranges due to possible erroneous voltage readings, so it’s wise to check whether your unit is affected.
