The Extech EX820A is a high-performance clamp meter capable of measuring up to 1000 A AC using true RMS, combined with a built-in non-contact infrared thermometer. Description
The EX820A is built to deliver reliable electrical and thermal diagnostics in a single handheld tool. Its clamp jaw (43 mm opening) supports conductor sizes up to 750 MCM or dual 500 MCM cables. The meter measures AC current from 0.1 A to 1000 A with a basic accuracy of ±(2.5 % + 8 digits). For temperature, it includes an infrared sensor covering –50 °C to 270 °C, enabling detection of overheating components without physical contact.
To improve measurement accuracy in challenging environments, the EX820A features a Low Pass Filter (LPF) to suppress high-frequency noise and a Low Impedance (LoZ) mode to avoid ghost voltages. It includes practical features such as inrush capture (to measure startup currents), peak and hold, and a 6000-count backlit LCD for clear reading in dim lighting. The housing is ergonomically double-molded for grip and one-handed operation, while safety is assured with a CAT IV 600 V rating.
This tool is ideal for diagnosing electrical systems where both current measurement and thermal spotting are required—for example, checking motors, connectors, panels, and cables in industrial or commercial settings.
