Extech HT30 Heat Stress WBGT Meter
The Extech HT30 is a handheld meter designed to assess heat stress conditions by measuring Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT), which combines air temperature, humidity, and radiant heat effects. It helps users understand how “hot” it really feels under different environmental conditions and is useful in occupational health, sports, and outdoor monitoring.
Description
The Extech HT30 integrates multiple environmental sensors to deliver a comprehensive heat stress assessment in a portable unit. It measures air temperature (TA), relative humidity (RH), and black globe temperature (TG) to compute the WBGT value—a composite index representing the combined effects of thermal radiation, humidity, and ambient temperature. The meter features an In/Out mode so you can see the WBGT with or without the influence of direct solar radiation. For flexibility, it offers selectable units (°C/°F), an auto-power-off feature (with override), and a built-in RS-232 interface for PC connectivity. It ships with two AAA batteries and is geared toward applications such as outdoor worksite monitoring, sports training environments, and industrial areas where heat stress is a concern.
Features
- Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) Measurement — Combines humidity, air temperature, and radiant heat into a single index.
- Black Globe Temperature (TG) Sensor — Captures the effect of direct solar radiation or radiant heat.
- In/Out Mode — Allows display of WBGT including or excluding solar exposure.
- Air Temperature (TA) & Relative Humidity (RH) — Measured directly and used for calculations.
- Selectable Units (°C / °F) — User choice for display.
- Auto Power Off (overrideable) — Saves battery but lets you disable auto-off when needed.
- RS-232 Interface — For data logging or PC communication.
- Audible Alarm — Beeps when WBGT reaches a preset threshold.
- Portable & Lightweight — Easy to carry in field or on site.
- Battery Operated — Powered by two AAA batteries.
