The Extech MA1500 is a high-capacity clamp meter capable of measuring both AC and DC currents up to 1500 A with true RMS accuracy. It also features a built-in non-contact voltage (NCV) detector and a full suite of multimeter functions, making it a powerful diagnostic tool for heavy electrical systems.
Description
The MA1500 is designed for demanding electrical tasks where high-current measurement and safe diagnostics are needed. Its jaws open to 2.0 in (52 mm), allowing it to clamp around large conductors (up to 500 MCM). The true RMS capability ensures accurate current readings even when waveforms are distorted or non-sinusoidal. In addition to its high current ranges, the meter supports AC/DC voltage (up to 750 V AC / 1000 V DC depending on range), resistance, capacitance, frequency, temperature (via Type K thermocouple), continuity and diode testing.
The NCV feature lets you detect live circuits without direct contact, improving safety during initial inspections. Other useful functions include inrush/current surge capture (for motor starts), relative mode (zeroing offsets), data hold, peak/minimum/maximum recording, and auto power-off to save battery. It has a dual-segment LCD (40,000 / 4,000 count) with backlight for readability in different lighting conditions. Ruggedly built for field use, it comes with test leads, a temperature probe, battery, and a carrying case.
