Extech VPC300 Video Particle Counter (with Built-in Camera)

The Extech VPC300 is a handheld video particle counter that combines airborne particle counting with imaging capabilities—measuring six particle size channels down to 0.3 µm while simultaneously capturing photos and video of the test location. It also logs environmental data like temperature and humidity, making it a powerful tool for indoor air quality, cleanroom inspections, and contamination monitoring.

Description

The VPC300 is engineered to provide both quantitative and visual evidence of particulate levels in air. It counts particles across six size ranges (0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, 5.0, and 10.0 µm) using a built-in pump pumping air at 0.1 ft³/min (≈ 2.83 L/min). Alongside particle counting, it measures ambient temperature, relative humidity, and computes dew point and wet bulb values, giving a fuller picture of air conditions.

What sets the VPC300 apart is the integrated 320×240-pixel camera. During measurement, the user can capture still images (JPEG) or video (3GP) of the test location, which are stored in the unit’s 74 MB internal memory or on a micro-SD card (up to 8 GB). The device can store up to 5,000 logged particle count records (including time, counts, environmental data, and sample volumes) and about 20 minutes of video. A 2.8-inch color TFT LCD display presents live data, while the menu system allows selection of sample times, programmable start delays, count modes (cumulative, differential, concentration), and auto/off options.

For data handling, the VPC300 includes a mini-USB interface for PC connection and comes with software to generate reports combining data, images, and videos. The unit supports tripod mounting for stable sampling, operates off a rechargeable 7.4 V lithium battery or AC adapter, and is designed with portability and field use in mind.

Operationally, users can define sampling parameters (duration, delay, cycle count), enable alarms, switch between display modes (MAX, MIN, AVG, DIF), and browse recorded logs and images directly on the instrument. The camera function is accessible during measurement, so you can correlate visual context with particulate readings—useful in contamination source identification or verifying airflow paths.

In summary, the VPC300 is a sophisticated particle counter that goes beyond numbers, offering visual documentation of measurement environments, making it well suited for applications in HVAC, indoor air quality audits, pharmaceutical environments, and cleanroom certification.
