Hioki CM3286-50 AC Clamp Power Meter
The Hioki CM3286-50 is a handheld power meter that lets you measure voltage, current, power (active, reactive, apparent), power factor, frequency, and phase angle in both single-phase and balanced three-phase circuits. It has a very wide range: from as low as 5 W and 60 mA up to 360 kW and 600 A, with True RMS measurement, plus optional wireless communication so you can transfer data and do simple harmonic analysis.
Description
The CM3286-50 is designed for electricians, commissioning engineers, facility managers, and power quality professionals who need reliable, accurate measurements across a wide range of power systems. It can measure small loads (down to tens of watts) as well as very large loads (hundreds of kilowatts) in single-phase or balanced three-phase setups. The meter uses True RMS for voltage and current, allowing accurate results even when waveforms are non-ideal, distortion or harmonics are present (within its spec limits). The device has a large jaw opening, letting you clamp around thick conductors or use optional adapters/clip sets for busbars.
Display wise, it can show four parameters at once (main + three sub-parameters), so you can monitor, for example, power, voltage, current, and power factor simultaneously. It includes functions to measure peak, MAX/MIN/AVG values, and has features like auto hold, phase detection, and warnings (both sound and light) when values go beyond safety limits. The unit supports CAT IV 600 V / CAT III 1000 V safety categories, making it suitable for harsh and high-voltage environments. With the optional wireless adapter, you can use a smartphone/tablet app to collect data, generate reports, even do simple harmonic analysis up to the 30th order. Operating temperature is wide (about -25 °C to +65 °C), and the meter is rugged, with decent ingress protection in its grip and jaw areas.
