Hioki PW3335 Power Meter
The PW3335 is a precise single-phase AC/DC power meter able to measure very small standby currents up to substantial loads. It offers wide voltage and current ranges, excellent accuracy even at low power factors, and is used for tests following IEC standards and benchmarks for energy consumption.
Description
The PW3335 is a benchtop meter built for high-precision measurement from standby to full load. It supports direct input voltage from about 6 V up to 1000 V (AC or DC), and current from roughly 1 mA to 20 A continuously (extending to 30 A in some ranges). Its design handles waveforms with high crest factor (up to about 6×) so sharp peaks (e.g. in switching power supplies) don’t compromise measurement. It keeps accuracy stable even when the power factor is very low, making it suitable for no-load, standby, or transformer/motor testing. The meter has broad frequency capability (from DC and very low frequency up to about 100 kHz), so it can capture both slow varying and fast switching signals. It supports harmonic measurement (up to the 50th order), ripple, waveform peaks, crest factors etc. Some versions include external sensor terminals so current sensors can measure currents beyond what the direct input allows (up to several thousand amps), while others include output interfaces (D/A), various communication ports (LAN, RS-232, GP-IB), and synchronized control for using multiple meters together. It also includes long integration times, auto- or fixed ranges, and functions appropriate for standby power measurements under IEC standards.
Features
- Basic accuracy of about ±0.1% for voltage, current, and power measurements under standard conditions.
- Measurement range from approximately 1 mA to 20 A direct, with some models supporting external current sensors for much higher current measurements.
- Voltage range from around 6 V up to 1000 V (AC/DC), across multiple selectable voltage ranges.
- Wide frequency bandwidth from DC (or ~0.1 Hz) up to ~100 kHz.
- Handles crest factors up to about 6×, so large waveform peaks do not distort measurement.
- Low power factor effect (error due to PF close to zero) is minimal, ensuring accuracy even under low load or standby conditions.
- Harmonic measurement up to the 50th order, plus total harmonic distortion (THD) and waveform analyses of peaks, crest factors, and more.
- Multiple model options: some with basic communication (LAN, RS-232), others with additional outputs (D/A), external sensor terminals, or GP-IB, depending on variant.
- Synchronization across up to 8 instruments for simultaneous measurement when more channels or comparisons are needed.
- Compliance with standards for standby power measurement (IEC 62301) and benchmarks for server power consumption.
