Hioki 3665 LAN Cable HiTester
The Hioki 3665 is a handheld LAN cable tester used to verify wiring (wire map), measure cable length, and detect faults in twisted-pair Ethernet cabling (shielded or unshielded). It’s especially useful for checking cables after installation and diagnosing open, short, split, or miswired pairs in the field.
Description
The Hioki LAN CABLE HiTESTER 3665 (often sold as model 3665-20) is a compact, battery-powered instrument tailored for network technicians to validate and troubleshoot Ethernet cabling. With the simple connection of a patch or cable under test and pressing the TEST button, it performs multiple diagnostic checks: a wire map test (to detect open, short, reversed, transposed, and split pairs), a cable length measurement (via TDR methods enhanced with NVP calibration), and a direction or identification function (which can distinguish up to 21 connected cables when used with optional terminators). The tester supports twisted-pair cables with 100 Ω characteristic impedance (Cat 3 up through Cat 6) and displays results on a backlit LCD. It also includes features like auto power-off, a beeper, and selectable units (meters or feet). The unit is lightweight and portable, designed for field use on active or newly terminated links.
Features
- Wire Map Testing – Detects faults such as open circuits, shorts, reversed pairs, transposed pairs, and split pairs.
- Cable Length Measurement – Measures cable lengths from 2 m to 300 m (approximately 6.6 ft to 984 ft) with ±4% ±1 m accuracy.
- Direction / Destination Identification – Distinguishes up to 21 cables using terminators (one included, additional optional).
- NVP (Nominal Velocity of Propagation) Calibration – Adjusts for different cable types to improve length measurement accuracy.
- Broad Cable Compatibility – Suitable for shielded and unshielded twisted-pair cables, including Cat 3, 4, 5, 5e, and 6.
- Backlit LCD Display – 128 × 64 dot-matrix display ensures visibility in any lighting conditions.
- Auto Power-Off / Power Saving – Shuts down automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity; battery life up to 50 hours.
